Our CoombeMill break – Day 2

The children woke around 7am (new time as the clocks went back). The long journey and all that playing last night must have taken its toll on them.

Fiona had told us at booking in yesterday about the feeding run with Farmer Nick at 9am each morning.We decided to head on out and join Farmer Nick and the other families on the feeding run. What fun it was!! The children were allowed to “drive”the tractor with Farmer Nick on the way to the several stops offs to feed the animals.J got to “drive” first! He loved it! As soon as he saw the tractor that morning he had asked if he could drive it, so was in his element when Farmer Nick picked him to help “drive” first.We set off on the feeding run. First stop was the Hens, Chickens, Ducks, Quail and Wallaby. The children loved going into the enclosures with them. J found the “hair chickens” rather funny!

We all hopped back on the tractor (with a different “driver”) and headed to the next stop. We saw Mummy pig and her 8 piglets, donkeys, sheep,alpaca, ponies and Pygmy goats. We went in to the field with the goats. They were a friendly bunch, jumping up at anyone who showed they had food!

Farmer Nick then took us on a little walk across the field on a “Deer Hunt”. We found where the deer were and watched them for a little while,before they ran off.J really took to Farmer Nick. Unfortunately, that involves J giving the person he has “latched” onto a Spanish inquisition. J was rolling off question after question, which we know can become tedious but Farmer Nick was great and answered all of J’s queries.We hopped back on to the tractor-trailer for our last journey, back to the car park and to see the rabbits!The children really enjoyed the feed run. A even fell asleep on the last tractor ride!

We headed back to the cottage for a nice cuppa tea, then decided to head off into town for some supplies and lunch. Thankfully our car made it up thehill…although we were mainly in 1st and 2nd gear!

We drove along the country lanes and went to a town called Wadebridge. It’s such a pretty place. We parked up and went for a walk. We came across a pub called Molesworth Arms and decided to pop in for lunch. As it was Sunday, there was a carvery. Wow, it was really nice and one of the best pub carvery’s we have had, and very reasonably priced too!! We grabbed some supplies and headed back to the cottage.

I drove back CoombeMill from town! I have driven down small country lanes before, albeit it was in a much smaller car than what we have now, but never down such a steep hill! I was really nervous. More about a car coming towards us as it really is a 1 car track, but I managed it down without scratching the car or crashing!!
